# The Challenge
RetailNext needed an industrial design partner who could translate complex sensor technology into an elegant, unobtrusive form factor. The Aurora would need to blend seamlessly into retail ceiling environments while housing sophisticated 3D imaging hardware, a Sony® megapixel sensor, and onboard analytics processing—all within a compact footprint that delivers two to three times the coverage area of competing solutions.
# Our Contribution
PDE's industrial design team worked closely with RetailNext to create a sensor housing that balances technical requirements with aesthetic considerations critical for retail environments. The design prioritizes minimal visual impact on ceiling architecture while ensuring optimal sensor positioning, thermal management, and ease of installation.
# The Result
The Aurora sensor has been deployed by leading global retailers including Razer, The Container Store, UNTUCKit, and Camper. Its innovative design enables retailers to significantly reduce hardware, cabling, and installation costs while maintaining beautiful store aesthetics.
